Murphs Nascar Pool

Kevin Harvick dominated all day long but he got a speeding penalty on pit road on the last pit stop. Brad had a fast car on restarts and he ended up in victory lane in Atlanta.

Nascar is a buzz about the creeper as they refer to him as with the M&M’s hat in victory lane.  Apparently he was also in the 88 pit stall at the end of the race as well.  Nascar is probably rethinking security at the races, little things like this tend to do this. Probably just a guy who had a few too many Miller Lights that day.

In the pool we have Papa’s Wee Gal, Mac Attack, SLED DEN, Dutch, and Julie Morrison.

Rounding out the top 10 we have Dog Days, Glen Corbett, Scott Miss, Spare Parts, and Hyhoe.

Most points for the week goes to Mac Attack with 265.

Off to Las Vegas this weekend.

Kurt Busch gets the job done in the Daytona 500.  He never dominated the race but survived the cautioned filled event and led the most important lap of the race, the last one.

Still undecided on the segment racing for 2017. Will have to play itself out to see the pros and cons. It will make the races longer, more commercials, more restarts and for sure more pit strategy.

Say hello to your 7-time Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson. I am not sure many people thought with the day Jimmie was having that he would come out on top. Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano all ran better than Jimmie all day but it was Jimmie that had luck and killed the last restart to get the win in Homestead.

So yes luck had a lot to do with it yesterday but Jimmie has been dominated his whole career and seems to have this Chase thing figured out. Having Chad Knaus as his crew chief, and Ron Melac as car chief makes for an incredible team.

Closest finish in Pool history, only one point separated 1st and 2nd positions!

Congratulations to Three Amigos for the win in 2016. Congratulations to everyone else that finished in the top 20, was a tough year for picking teams for sure. I would have said no way Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr, or Matt Kenseth  would not have been in the final 4 for 2016.

Luck can be everything for some and terrible for others. Matt Kenseth looked like he had everything wrapped up for the win on Sunday in Phoenix. A caution with 2 laps to go turned out to be his misfortune for the day. With Kenseth leading but getting involved in a wreck and Joey getting through it allowed Joey to make the final in Homestead this Sunday.

Really didn’t see that one coming until I saw the caution come out with 2 laps to go. Then it was like everyone for themselves racing. I am surprised Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. don’t have a shot at winning it this year.

Sometimes luck can be everything, especially in the Chase. Carl Edwards ran well all night, got the perfect pit stop before the rain came again and got the win in Texas

Off to Phoenix we got this Sunday.  Two Chevys, 3 Toyotas and 1 Ford fighting for the final 2 spots left for the Finals in Homestead.

Jimmie Johnson is the first to lock himself a spot in the final 4 at Homestead. The last caution flew at the right time for Jimmie, not so well for others that had already pitted.

Off to Texas we go this weekend, fast 1.5 mile. Expect the Toyotas to be extremely fast there.

Okay not a fun Talladega with Joe Gibbs Teams riding around in the back all day but their strategy worked, just a boring race. That didn’t stop Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski from hanging it out there for the win. If Brad’s motor had of stayed together I don’t think anyone could have beat him.

Well you have to admit it. When Kevin Harvick needs a win in the Chase to move onto the next round he does it. Kevin gets the win in Kansas to secure his spot in the final 8. He didn’t dominate all day like Matt Kenseth did, but he got the lead when he needed to after the last caution.

Off to Talladega this weekend, restrictor plate racing, yep who knows what will happen there.

If anyone dismissed Jimmie Johnson having a shot at this championship, better think twice. Their consistency hasn’t been there this year but getting the win on Sunday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway gives him a spot in the final 8.

Martin Truex Jr. gets win number 2 in the Chase. The number 78 team is the team to beat for sure right now, been up front all year.
